Radio Interview #4

Hi All,

In between Saturday morning cartoons, if you happen to be awake I will be on the David Strom Show with (obviously) David Strom.

AM 1280 the Patriot. 915AM.

Feel free to tune in! And if you miss your Bugs Bunny cartoons, don't worry, I have them all on DVD (and the unedited ones too, where "Should We Shoot Him Now or Wait Till We Get Home" and Elmer Fudd actually shoots Daffy Duck!)

Your last interview was funnier than any cartoon. I'm still laughing about 'hookers and blow' comment.

If you have the unedited Bugs, then you have the censored ending that had Bugs dancing in backface. I never understood as a kid how racist the term 'cotton picking' was.

Bugs is the only cartoon character with a postage stamp. Take that, Mickey!

My favorite episode was Bugs dressed up as a fox. Obama must've seen it too because he plays the same trick:

Dog:
'Fox tracks'
'Train tracks'
'I got you now Mr. Fox'

Bugs: 'Just a minute. What kind of tracks were you following anyway?'

Dog: 'Uh, train tracks!'

Bugs: 'Well then, you must be trying to catch a train.'

Dog: 'Uh, that makes good sense!'

I was too young to remember the black face. I do distinctly remember any gun being pulled from the original broadcasts. Was almost pointless to have Bugs Bunny without guns and explosives.

The blackface scene was right at the end of the episode called "Fresh Hare." I remember it from childhood, and thought nothing of it at the time.
You can see a photo of it on the Wiki entry for Bugs:

I guess Spike Lee does have a point about endemic racism from our past, although I spanked him in my blog for his stupid comments about Flags of our Fathers.

Bugs is still the best! He's such a smart aleck. I spent my whole childhood hoping that Sylvester and Wile E. Coyote would eventually devour those damned annoying birds. It was good preparation for the disappointments of adulthood.

Contemporary cartoons are pathetic and unsophisticated, especially the insipid Sponge Bob and that leftist, dehumanizing propaganda: Captain Planet.
