Ahh, French Standards of Living

A mere fraction of the US'

Always has been, always will be.

And do my economic spidey senses detect a slight downward trend?

(FYI, this was calculated by French GDP per Capita divided by US GDP per Capita)

I would bet, however, that you're envious of their proposed immigration legislation. Make sure the immigrants are literate and speak the local language. Make sure they have the skills to provide for themselves... sounds nice.

Of course, immigrants there won't be able to find a job like they can here. Which makes me wonder why would immigrants even want to go to France?

Yeah, I do envy their legislation. Sucky as their culture is, they do at least seem intent on defending it.

That being said, please, you need to ask why the immigrants all go to France?

W-E-L-F-A-R-E

Much as hate our illegals here, at least it seems they come here to work. Which is why I've always advocated that they be allowed to do so, just not to vote or become citizens unless they get in line.

Ah, mustn't miss the chance for more stupid immigrant bashing.

French deportation laws are _already_ remarkably draconian by American standards and as of the late '90's they don't even grant native citizenship as we do. "W-E-L-F-A-R-E" can't be a hell of a motivator --- in France since so many services are provided by the state, an illegal can't easily get them without being deported: illegals in France aren't on welfare anymore than illegals in America are.

France has a large African illegal immigrant population, because it has a large African _legal_ immigrant population, and the people going there are Francophone; France's relationship to Africa is in some ways analogous to America's relationship to Latin America.

But it must be fun to be able to bash some poor people and refugees as goldbrickers. How admirable.
